Memory in Motion
I try to deconstruct the traditional mechanical parts - gears, reeds, nuts - these fragmented parts symbolise the demise of the old industrial civilisation, they are precise but cold, and with the advancement of technology, the traditional craftsmanship that symbolises functionalism is fading away. But in my opinion, the future of craftsmanship is not based on the separation of tradition.
I reconstruct these parts through the ancient technique of printmaking, and these parts become silent symbols in the picture. By rearranging and arranging these symbols on the woodcut plate, I reconstruct the physical symbols into a grand future mechanical world through colours and black-and-white ink, and I try to achieve a harmony by interlacing and superimposing the combination of parts in the picture.

I hope that my creation builds a bridge between the traditional industry and the industry of the future, so that the viewer can feel how the spirit of human craftsmanship is moving from the past to a more complex and sophisticated but humanistic future.

Worlds Within
The surrealist and abstract style of my self-portrait is used as a tool for self-exploration to navigate my interests and express how the melding of my various passions forms who I am as a person. I capture the influence of multiple passions and their tensions and contradictions by harnessing the colourless inkpen style to juxtapose wildly differing multi-modal interests while blending them seamlessly through unconventional compositions with negative space and ambiguous lines. As the skier slides down the slope, the contours of the mountain gradually transform into water-like hair where sailboats race, and the gears, circuit boards, and mechanical forms blend, distort, and morph into the trees, snow, and water, in the same manner that I myself shuttle between these settings. Meanwhile, by placing modern mechanical parts such as gears, clocks, and tubes into the ancient art technique of printmaking, I explored the progression of human technology. Each element interlocking with ink—with precision meeting imperfection—symbolizes how innovation doesn’t erase tradition but evolves from it. Such compositions show how I find the intersection of creativity through art and activity, and logical thinking through engineering, science, and technology, revealing that creativity and craftsmanship have always been intertwined. I hope my creation builds a bridge between the traditional industry and the industry of the future, so the viewer can feel how the spirit of human craftsmanship moves from the past toward a more complex yet humanistic future.

LOGO Design

Scadding's House Logo
This is a logo design for our school's house clothing. The large logo goes on the back of a quarter zip and the top right logo is for the front on the top left.

JA Company Books Logo
These logos were made for a program called Junior Achievement Company Program where students get together to design their own product and company and sell their products. This was a company that made children's books called "Tales and Trinkets" at the time of making these logo designs. We later renamed it to "Timeless Pursuits" and used the logo at the top in our product and social media accounts.

Leginaddin Logo
This was a logo that I made for profile pictures for online accounts. The word "Leginaddin" is an anagram for my name "Daniel Ding" and is a username I use online.

JA Company Plug
This logo was also for JA company for a company called "Artlet" that sold outlet covers with designs on them. This was the logo we used but there were other versions as well similar to the attached document.
